Shall I, Shan't I keeps your Decisions so you can come back to them. It doesn't show ads, doesn't track you, and never sells what you write. The only time anything you write leaves our systems is if you switch on AI suggestions and ask for one (see below).
What the app stores
- Your account: your email address, or your Google account's name and email if you sign in with Google.
- Your Decisions: each question, what it costs, how easily it could be undone, your reason for wanting it, your Notes and the links in them, any alternatives you add, your Check-ins, your Reckoning, your Verdict and how it turned out.
- Your settings: your take-home pay and working hours if you add them (used only to show costs as time at work), the hour you want reminders, and whether you've seen the introduction.
Reminders are scheduled on your phone, not sent from a server. Anything you share into the app from another app (such as a product page) is only stored if you save it as a Decision.
AI suggestions (optional)
These are off unless you switch them on in Settings, and you can switch them off at any time. When they're on and you ask for a suggestion, the details of that one Decision (such as its question, cost, your reason, check-ins and alternatives) are sent to Anthropic, the company that makes the Claude AI model, to write the reply. Nothing from your other Decisions is sent. Anthropic processes it in the United States, doesn't use it to train its models, and keeps it only briefly. The AI never makes a decision for you.
For each AI request we keep a cost record: your account ID, the date, the AI model used, how much text it processed and what it cost. It never includes what was sent or the reply. We keep these records even after you delete your account, so we know what the service costs to run.
Why
Only to run the app for you: to keep your Decisions safe, sync them between your devices and remind you when it's time to check in or decide. In UK GDPR terms, the basis is providing the service you asked for.
Where it's kept
Your Decisions and settings are stored in Google Firebase in London (europe-west2). Sign-in is handled by Firebase Authentication, which Google may process outside the UK under its standard data protection terms. Google acts only on our instructions and doesn't use this data for its own purposes. Only you can read your data; the database is locked to your account.
What we don't do
- No advertising, analytics or tracking in the app or on this website.
- No selling your data, and no sharing it, apart from sending a Decision to Anthropic when you ask for an AI suggestion.
- No affiliate links.
This website sets no tracking cookies. The delete-account page uses your browser's storage only to keep you signed in, and only once you sign in there.
How long it's kept
Until you delete it. Deleting a Decision removes it straight away. Deleting your account removes every Decision, your settings and your sign-in. Only the AI cost records described above are kept.
Deleting your account
In the app, open your account menu, then Settings, then Delete my account. Without the app, use shallishanti.com/delete-account. If you can't sign in any more, email us from the address on the account and we'll delete it for you.
Your rights
You can ask for a copy of your data, ask us to correct or delete it, or object to how it's used. Email hello@shallishanti.com. If you're unhappy with our answer, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Children
The app is for adults and isn't aimed at anyone under 18.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes too. Anything significant will also be mentioned in the app.
